Tarrant County College is now offering a revised version of its parent-focused outreach initiative, Ambassadors of the Community, or Embajadores de la Comunidad, available for the first time in both English and Spanish for Tarrant County residents.
The free interactive seminar series designed to promote a college-going culture will be offered on TCC campuses beginning in the spring and will be available on-site at schools, churches, recreation centers, libraries and other community organizations upon request.
"In response to community needs and in an effort to provide this information to parents in all areas of Tarrant County, anyone is welcome to call to schedule a class as needed," said Program Coordinator and Enrollment Services Advisor Lourdes Davenport.
The restructured program format features four two-hour sessions aimed to educate parents on the United States educational system and establish networks of support that will help encourage growth as parents, individuals and members of the community. Participants also receive Continuing Education credits at no charge.
Though the original Embajadores program, taught entirely in Spanish, started in 2002, the revised content in both English and Spanish includes how to nurture children to be successful students and tips for staying in touch with children and their education.
"Parents have the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge of resources valuable not only to their child's pursuit of higher education, but, in many cases, to their own as well," said Davenport.
The new program will be introduced during an invitation-only luncheon Monday, Dec. 14, at 11:30 a.m. in Room Action C on Trinity River Campus, 300 Trinity Campus Circle in downtown Fort Worth. Enrollment Services advisors will be available to answer questions.
