Basic Phlebotomy is a 42-hour course designed to provide the student with a theoretical background for the collection of blood specimens. Topics include professionalism, ethics, medical terminology, related anatomy and physiology, utilization of laboratory equipment and skills needed to perform a venipuncture.
Phlebotomy Clinical is a 120-hour course that serves as the clinical practice extension of the basic phlebotomy course. It is designed to provide the student with additional theoretical knowledge while concentrating on the development of skills useful in phlebotomy. Students must have successfully completed Basic Phlebotomy in order to take Phlebotomy Clinical.
Students must:
A drug screen and criminal background check will be conducted on students applying for enrollment in Phlebotomy Clinical. Students must have a negative drug test and no disqualification from the criminal background check in order to be registered in Phlebotomy Clinical.
These programs are eligible for financial aid.
South Campus offers the exam to become a certified phlebotomist by the National Association for Health Care Professionals.
