Basics / Core Curriculum

All Texas public colleges and universities are required by law to adopt a Core Curriculum of no less than 42 semester credit hours.

TCC's core curriculum block of courses will be substituted for the receiving institution's Core Curriculum. A student shall receive academic credit for each of the courses transferred and may not be required to take additional core curriculum courses at the receiving public institution unless the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved a larger Core curriculum at the receiving institution.

Any student concurrently enrolled at more than one institution of higher education shall follow the core curriculum requirements in effect for the institution at which he/she is classified as degree-seeking.

TCC has a 46 hour core curriculum. The Associate of Arts degree and approved Fields of Study include the core. Core curriculum requirements must be met to be considered core complete at TCC.

The number of required hours for each area are given below, as well as the courses a student may take to fulfill each requirement.
