Study Spanish in Heredia, Costa Rica! In coordination with Sol Education Abroad, TCC offers students the opportunity to earn college credits while studying at the ULatina University May 19 - June 16, 2012 with Professor Alejandro Garza.
Students choosing to take courses will earn six (6) hours of credit from the ULatina University and are transferable to Tarrant County College as Intermediate Spanish I and II (SPAN 2311 and 2312).
Costs & RegistrationStudents will be responsible for TCC tuition costs and the Sol Education Abroad program costs.
Deadline to register is March 1, 2012.
Note: A minimum of 10 participants must be enrolled by March 1, 2012 or the program will be canceled. If the program is canceled, students will receive a 100% refund for any monies paid.
Airfare--Students have the option of Sol Education Abroad arranging their flight logistics (group flight with SOL is estimated at $600).
The resident director is available 24/7 to assist the students with whatever needs they may have and will lead all excursions and cultural activities.
Six (6) credits at the ULatina University, transferable to TCC.
The Tarrant County College faculty, Alejandro Garza, will receive the students' transcripts upon completion of the program and a list of the grades earned. Mr. Garza will post the TCC grades on the TCC transcript.
The program includes International Medical Insurance through Atlas International, underwritten by MultiNational Underwriters. The policy is $0 deductible with up to $50,000 of coverage. All students will be emailed a PDF of their insurance card prior to the trip. Coverage is for the exact program dates.
TransportationGround transportation to and from the airport and Heredia is included on the established dates. Those students who arrive outside of the established start dates and end dates are responsible for their own ground transportation. Students must contact Sol Education Abroad if they need to make special pickup arrangements.
All students will live with a local host family. The family provides three meals per day. Families will do laundry once per week. Two students are normally placed per home.
When students arrive at the study abroad destination, the on-site staff will provide them with a welcome orientation. This will cover important topics such as health, safety, academics, host families, and cultural awareness. During the first week students will also receive a Heredia city tour to learn the important points in their new city.
There will be a reception and farewell event.
Class materials are included.
The summer program includes 1 to 2 per week and are done during the weekdays. Students will receive a calendar listing the scheduled cultural activities for your program. Cultural Activities are performed based on availability, student interest and director discretion. Cultural Activities are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
This program includes one full day excursion to Poás Volcano National Park.
Students may participate in other optional Sol Education Abroad excursions at the student's expense that coincide with the program dates as long as they enroll before departure. Excursions include lodging, transportation and entrance fees. Breakfast is included. Lunch and dinner are not always included and are usually paid for separately. The Sol Education Abroad director will inform students of what is and what is not included for meals before each trip. Sol Education Abroad hires outside transportation companies to provide transportation for excursions.
