United Way Women's Leadership Society Scholarship
Funded by The Women’s Fund of The United Way of Tarrant County, this scholarship is established to empower women with children receiving services through SafeHaven of Tarrant County, the Women’s Center of Tarrant County, and the YWCA of Fort Worth and Tarrant County to pursue their educational goals, enabling them to move into satisfying and rewarding career jobs.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be receiving services from one or more of the following community organizations: SafeHaven of Tarrant County, the Women's Center of Tarrant County, and/or the YWCA of Forth Worth and Tarrant County.
- Must be currently enrolled at or entering Tarrant County College with the intent to pursue an associate degree, a certificate of completion, or a continuing education program that will either support transfer to a four-year institution or provide preparation for a career job of choice.
- Student must choose an educational track upon beginning courses and must maintain this track during the period of award.
- Must enroll as a full-time student. If pursuing an associate degree or certificate of completion this is a minimum of 12 semester hours for period of award. If pursuing a continuing education program this is a minimum of 4 units over the period of two quarters.
- Must have a minimum TCC GPA of 2.0 or high school equivalent if a first-time TCC student, or minimum total standard GED score of 2750. If documentation cannot be provided the applicant must take the TCC placement test, the ACCUPLACER, and pass all three areas of math, reading and writing to show college readiness.
- Must meet federal guidelines for financial need.
- Recipient(s) pursuing an associate degree or a certificate of completion will continue to receive the scholarship, for up to four semesters, as long as a minimum semester GPA of 2.0 is achieved and a minimum of 9 credit hours are completed each semester, and as long as funds are available. Recipients pursuing a continuing education program will continue to receive the scholarship, for up to eight quarters (four semesters), as long as a "Pass" score, which results in earning CE units, is achieved in 75 percent of the courses attempted, and as long as funds are available.
Application Process
- Complete the TCC Foundation United Way Women's Leadership Society scholarship application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Complete the current FAFSA for determination of financial need. The financial aid process must be completed by the scholarship deadline.
- One letter or recommendation must be from an employee of the organization from which the applicant has received services.
- First-time TCC students: an academic transcript or GED scores, if applicable. Submit to the Foundation office.

$500 per semester or $250 per quarter
