Establishing a Scholarship
Establishing a scholarship at the TCC Foundation is one way to assist TCC students and give back to the community. When you support a scholarship, you can feel confident you are investing in our community's future, as more than 80% of our graduates since 2005 have remained in Tarrant County to live and work.
1. Determine the type of scholarship you wish to fund.
- A $5,000 gift establishes a named scholarship that provides for a time-frame of five (5) academic years (fall and spring awards of $500). During the course of this 5-year spend-down process, other contributions may be made to the scholarship fund, thus increasing the life of the award.
- A $30,000 gift establishes a named and endowed scholarship that provides a scholarship award in perpetuity. The award is based on funds available through investment earnings. The gift amount may be a one-time contribution or an amount that is accumulated over a period of two (or more) years. Also, additional gifts may be made to the fund to increase future size and number of awards.
2. Determine the focus of your scholarship.
- Foundation staff will assist you in developing the scholarship criteria, which might reflect the desire to support a specific discipline of study, a specific campus site, academic standing or financial need.
- The scholarship may be named in honor or memory of an individual or organization.
3. Authorize/sign scholarship establishment documents.
- A letter of intent will be required for a scholarship funded over a period of time.
- Scholarship provisions outline the establishment of the scholarship, its criteria, the amount of the award and the process to select the recipient.
