The Jim Barros Music Scholarship

This scholarship is funded through contributions and financial support received through the Larry Gatlin Live! fundraising event held in May 2009. The scholarship is named in honor of Jim Barros, retired department chair and professor of music at Northeast Campus.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be currently enrolled at Tarrant County College pursuing studies in music at Northeast Campus with the intent to transfer to a four-year music major degree program.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours at TCC.
  • Must have successfully completed the following courses: MUSI 1211, MUSI 1212, MUSI 1216 and MUSI 1217.
  • Must enroll in private lessons, recital lab and at least one music ensemble.
  • Must enroll in a minimum of 9 semester hours for period of award.
  • Must have a minimum TCC GPA of 2.75, including a minimum GPA of 3.0 in music courses.
  • This is a merit-based scholarship; although determination of financial aid is not required, students are encouraged to file a FAFSA application for other forms of available aid.
  • Recipient will receive a spring scholarship if a minimum semester GPA of 2.75 is achieved in the fall, including a minimum GPA of 3.0 in music courses, and a minimum of 9 credit hours are completed.
